How to detect stem and bulb nematodes in garlic
In recent years, garlic producers in Ontario and Quebec have been severely affected by stem and bulb nematodes. This parasitic nematode can cause major economic losses and persist for several years in the soil. The main vector of dispersion of this nematode is the seed (cloves). It is therefore essential to act in prevention by ensuring the planting of cloves free of nematodes in healthy soil. We propose a simple method for the extraction and observation of nematodes from garlic bulbs. This method can be done inexpensively directly on the farm using accessible material.
